He holds a degree in Economics from the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), Magna Cum Laude, with a post-graduate degree in Monetary Programming. He holds a Master’s Degree in Economics with a major in Applied Macroeconomics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where he graduated with honors.
In 1999, Mr. Héctor Salcedo worked in the formation of AFP Porvenir; after its formation, he was appointed Executive Vice President in September 2000. In this position, Mr. Salcedo participated in the formation of the Dominican Social Security System through Law 87-01. Additionally, he participated in the formation of the Pension Fund Administrators industry in the country. Prior to joining AFP Porvenir, Mr. Salcedo worked in important financial and research institutions in the country. For two years he worked at the Fundación de Economía y Desarrollo as Research Assistant, then he was Technical Advisor of Economics for the Grupo Financiero Popular and the Asociación de Bancos Comerciales de República Dominicana (Association of Commercial Banks of the Dominican Republic). In 1997 and 1998, he served as Coordinator of the Economic Analysis Center of the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic and as a Consultant for USAID. In early 1999, Mr. Salcedo was appointed assistant to the President of Compañía Nacional de Seguros, where he was in charge of the financial planning of the main insurance company in the DR, financial analysis of the different projects of the Company and analysis of the relevant economic environment.
For some years, he was involved in academia as a professor at INTEC and PUCMM in undergraduate and graduate programs in the courses of Macroeconomics, Economic Development and International Economics. Mr. Salcedo has published research in the area of trade openness, economic conjuncture reports, construction and analysis of financial system indicators (risk, profitability, and liquidity).
